Salisbury! ???

This is where we should have been this Bank Holiday weekend.  We loaded the camper up, drove about 100 metres, and it conked out.  Luckily we were on a slope and the local garage was at the bottom so we coasted down.  Its the fuel pump....but ...and theres always a but with garages, as they have to strip it down to replace parts you may as well have other things done whilst they have it in bits.  It makes good sense but just adds to the costs. Sob sob!!!!

So I have pinched some photos of Salisbury from the web, and thank you whoever took them, just to show you where we were going.

It was due to rain anyway!!!!!!!

The Gower............The plains!

Well not really more like the Lougher estuary as seen from Penclawdd.  This area of salt marsh is famous for its lambs which graze here.  The special flavour of the meat is said to come from the samphire that grows here.

The Skirrid

The Skirrid or Holy Mountain at 1550'  is just outside Abergavenny.  It distinctive shape makes it a well known landmark, popular for walking with good views from the top.   It was a religioius meeting place and there are the remains of a very old chapel.

The old canal

This is part of the Merthyr to Cardiff canal, The Glamorganshire Canal, built in the late 1700's to carry iron ore and goods from Merthyr to  Cardiff.  Most of it has disappeared under roads or fallen into disrepair but parts have become nature reserves.  This section is outside Pontypridd and I came across it by accident when I was cycling and just wondered what was down this little track.  Lets hope it gets put to good use.

You never know whats around the corner !!!
