The "lady" in red?

Posted by Picasa
A Palm Sunday parade.....but who is this in red?

Its maybe just the way my mind works but it was the contrasts between the Easter scene and then with the woman in red passing in front, reminded me of a good versus evil, God and the Devil theme. Although I'm sure the lady in red would be horrified to be thought of as "evil" as she had a lovely smile as she passed me. But then maybe she was laughing at me dressed in cycling gear.!!!

The Pontlottyn Challenge

Posted by Picasa

Here we are on our annual trip to Pontlottyn, which ties in with the Six Nations rugby, and we time it to coincide with a Wales away game. So we can watch the match on TV, have few beers, then get the train home. Its not all fun, as the ride there is about 30 miles with some hard hills, so you earn your beer.

Post War Britain

Posted by Picasa
These pictures are from "Our Hidden Lives" by Simon Garfield.
The book is made up of excerpts from peoples diaries of post war Britain. The diaries were started as a result of a programme called Mass Observation, where volunteers were invited to keep journals which would give sociologists an insight into the thoughts, feelings and experiences of the lives of everyday people. Over a thousand people took part and the entries cover the period 3 June 1946 to 7 July 1948.
I find it interesting because as I was born in 1948, my parents probably had similar experiences, thoughts, and emotions as the diarists did.

Guto Nyth Bran

Posted by Picasa

This is the tombstone of Guto in Llanwonno churchyard. Read more here. Sorry about the quality of the picture but I only had my phone camera.

Coincidentially its opposite a pub where we often stop on our rides as they do the most fantastic cheese or salad rolls.
