St Swithin's Day

St Swithins day

St Swithins day if thou dost rain
For forty days it will remain
St Swithins day if thou be fair
For forty days'twill rain nae mare

Well it rained all day so at the moment it doesn't look good for the rest of the summer.

No bike rides or walks just a day spent reading and looking out of the window.

Here's an avocado that I grew from a stone.

Our Christmas tree which happily lives in the back yard.

Well I've just seen the forecast for next week and it's looking good with temperatures in the mid to high 20's.

Where is St. Swithin!!!!!!

Down the Bay for an ice cream

Always a favourite ride, and as it was sunny I took my old bike, which is about 35 years old, for a spin.  Its a lovely ride as its so light, but its not up to the cycling I do now.

See the route on the LHS

1980 Raleigh Competition.
I've changed the gearing all round to make it more rideable for me.  Its a 34 /13 on the rear and a 48/34 chainset.  I've kept all the original stuff, just in case I decide to sell it.

Parks are now leaving verges uncut and this was lovely with the cornflowers out.

This used to be a pitch and putt area but now a meadow.

The old Custom House along with the new developments.  Apparently cardiff Bay is one of the largest waterside areas in Europe.

The goal!!

Plymouth to Cardiff cycle ride.

This was a club ride from the 30th June to the 4th July, and 14 club members did it and all successfully completed it.    Considering that some of the ride was done on stony trails there was only one puncture, and that was a slow one with the tyre going down overnight,  so it was fixed in time for the next days ride.
When you are leading a group of this size over this distance on roads and trails  safety is paramount, and all went very well.  No one became isolated and the group only got split  once but as every one was on route all it meant was that those in the split group were able to wait at a convenient pub and enjoy a coffee.

We were lucky with the weather with some rain on day one, the rest of the ride was done in a mixture of cloudy and very sunny weather.

All the routes are shown in the Strava panel on the side. The mileage I recorded was 433 k, although I did miss out a section [ maybe 15k ] when I forgot to switch Strava on.

We rode 433 k, climbed 4000 metres, and I personally used up 14,000 cals, so plenty of room for a few beers.
