This was a club ride from the 30th June to the 4th July, and 14 club members did it and all successfully completed it. Considering that some of the ride was done on stony trails there was only one puncture, and that was a slow one with the tyre going down overnight, so it was fixed in time for the next days ride.
When you are leading a group of this size over this distance on roads and trails safety is paramount, and all went very well. No one became isolated and the group only got split once but as every one was on route all it meant was that those in the split group were able to wait at a convenient pub and enjoy a coffee.
We were lucky with the weather with some rain on day one, the rest of the ride was done in a mixture of cloudy and very sunny weather.
All the routes are shown in the Strava panel on the side. The mileage I recorded was 433 k, although I did miss out a section [ maybe 15k ] when I forgot to switch Strava on.
We rode 433 k, climbed 4000 metres, and I personally used up 14,000 cals, so plenty of room for a few beers.
WOW a huge pack to keep watch over. What A THRILL! So did you set up camp at night or stay in Inn's or how does that part work? I know some trails have a hut to hut system like the ones from Utah to Colorado.
ReplyDeleteSondra, we didn't camp, because after a day in the saddle setting up a tent and cooking is hard work. We stayed in a combination of Inns / pubs, Bed and Breakfast guest houses, and hostels. So we had the luxory of a bed and a meal.....not to forget a few beers. When you put a group of 65 to 70 year olds in a hostel room, after a few beers, we soon revert back to kids. It was a good fun trip.
ReplyDeleteGlad the 'kids' enjoyed the ride.
ReplyDeleteLooks a good trip.
....and they were mostly well behaved. I might take them again!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a lot of fun! Especially since you didn't camp. LOL

ReplyDeleteGood to see the ride went off well after all the planning and work that went into it Dave. Looks like you all enjoyed some cracking countryside along the way too.
ReplyDeleteHave you started planning the next one yet?
