The next long stop was on Lake Konstance or Bodensee, and we stayed on the shores of the lake just outside Lindau, an island but connected by a causeway.
Lindau
Many, meadows here, so the insects thrive.
and in the distance, the Alps.
It was a good walk from the campsite around the lake to Lindau.
Some birdlife here
Mating Grebes, so elegant.
There were some newer developments
Some narrow streets and hidden gardens
The campsite was almost on the Austrian border, and crossing this river we were in Austria, which was where the nearest supermarket was. So every time we went shopping we had a text from Virgin Mobile saying welcome to Austria, and then on the way home another one saying welcome to Germany.
Leaving Lindau we drove through Austria, Lichenstein to Interlaken.

Glad you had such a good time in the real world!
ReplyDeleteThose buildings are interesting, very different to what we are used to.
Great travel blog!
Thanks Mr A, yes the style of architecture is different to ours although there are some similarities in and around East Anglia.
DeleteI just pulled up Lindau on the map you were very far from home! A very beautiful town and the surrounding area pleasant and natural too. Love the cobblestone or brick streets...I assume no cars in that area which is great. Love seeing the great crested grebes, swan, merganser, and is that the little egret? What a fantastic trip! You must have covered many km.
ReplyDeleteNo cars and in some streets the bikes had priority and also on one way streets could travel in the opposite direction to cars.
DeleteI wasn't sure about the duck as it may have been a juvenile, possibly a hooded merganser??. I think thats an egret.
We did about 3500k, but the roads on the continent are better than in the UK and the driving is far more relaxing...and you soon get used to driving on the right.
Wow....what an extraordinary trip. I must say I love all your photos....But know what captured my heart....Mating Grebes, so elegant.
ReplyDeleteThanks Wanda, yes Grebes are very elegant and their courtship dance is a pleasure to watch as they give each other bits of weed / grass.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you stayed at the same campsite as I did before we set off towards the Alps and over the Splugen Pass into Italy. I loved cycling along the road beside Lake Konstance and your photos have brought back the memories of that 10in10 ride.. Thanks for sharing the images of your trip..
ReplyDeleteThanks Trevor thats a coincidence . Yes we were chatting to some other campers and they were going to Italy so that made us think, shall we? But there is only so much you can do and sometimes trying to do too much can spoil a trip.
