About time too.....

A long time since my last post , the main reason like many others, is that nothing much has happened and with the restrictions on travelling etc, the only thing I have been doing apart from the usual household chores is cycling.  Thankfully there are no restrictions on how far you can cycle, but at the moment you are allowed to cycle with one other person.  Last week my mileage was over 200 miles, luckily we are blessed with fantastic cycling country right on our doorstep.

This is a local cycle trail "The Lady Windsor" and is on an old railway line going to and from what was The Lady Windsor colliery.

 The river Cynon

In Wales you are never far from a chapel.

These are the views from my lunch stop.  As cafe's are only open for takeaways a flask of coffee and a sandwich goes with me on the ride.  Whilst I was choosing my picnic spot a passing motorist stopped and asked if I was ok as he thought I had come off on the descent.  A nice gesture.

  1. Oh Dave, it sounds wonderful. I've missed you. Even though I took a blog break, I do visit from time to time to see if you had put up a new post. The ride sounds so enjoyable, and that flask of coffee and sandwich..delighful. The only place my dearest goes is to doctor appointments. And I do get out and about when I can to pick up medicine or to do a bit of shpping. I plan to get back to blogging Palm Sunday. Keep rididng, and smiling and posting!

    1. Thanks Wanda. I think there's a global feeling that most days are "ground hog" days but hopefully now there is some light at the end of the tunnel.

  2. Good to have you back Dave. A bit like you, I have not been blogging for a while and the weather has not been conducive for long cycle rides, especially as you cannot call into a warm cafe and sit down for refreshments.

However we had a warm day last week and I had a long (for me) ride. I shall do a posting when I can get round to it - with no rain I can at last get out to mow the lawns!

    1. The weather is getting better and the latest high pressure has brought some good days, although it can still get cold. I wore my Corrine Dennis stuff the other day for the first time and its very comfortable. Pleased you're getting out and about as it makes a huge difference. I've just become a life member of Cycling UK !

    2. Congratulations on your life membership of Cycling UK Dave. I have been a life member of something called the Cyclists' Touring Club for some years now. I still refer to the periodical that Cycling UK sends me as the "CTC Gazette" very old habits die hard!

I bought a new Corrine Dennis jacket this winter, one size larger as the fit felt more comfortable with multi layers underneath. She turns out good stuff. Gave my smaller, medium size, jacket to a cycling mate who is old enough to graduate to an ebike.

  3. How lovely to get out!
Great panoramic view of the town from the hill. Super pic!
Sorry, but you must take more pictures when out, we need to see the world!
Old railway lines make great tracks, often reasonably level.
The miners lives must have been tough.
Nice to know motorists care in that part of the world.
    Great post!

    1. You're right Mr A I must take more pictures and really when cycling on your own there's no excuse.
Miners lives were hard and life expectancy was short . Not only was it long hours and hard physical work but very often they had a fair distance to walk to get to work.
Now the mines have gone and the spoil heaps have returned to grass the valleys look good.

  4. WELL I was happy to see you post. Good you're getting out there on the bike, 200 miles-- wow if you had been going in a straight line you'd gone to Snowdonia and back!
We have no restrictions at this point. I think most Americans have given up. Everyone here is still wearing masks, but I saw on the news a huge influx of spring break in FL had to be put on curfew to try and control them. Your ride looks wonderful...and the good Samaritan check shows that people do care. I read the plaque, such a shame...mining is a very dangerous operation. Hope you have a good week!!

    1. Our restrictions are being reviewed on Friday so if the statistics are looking good we may be able to travel further afield and there's a possibility that the campsites will open up for Easter. Yes the Samaritan check was very nice and appreciated, as cycling accidents can easily happen.
