I've been watching the mushrooms change colour and noticed that they had also been eaten. Slugs and snails are the ones that come to mind first but also animals like squirrels mice and rats also eat them.and contribute to the ecosystem by helping to spread the spores via their faeces.
Here's one having breakfast.
As my mobility is very restricted these days to just short local walks I noticed these ivy flowers and the berries getting ready as a winter food source for birds.
HI Dave, Mushrooms are so mysterious, I know the squirrels enjoy eating them and I never realized that insects do too. I really like the slug photo as he creeps along. My dogs also eat certain mushroom...they seem to know one from the other, wish I had a fraction of their knowledge. Have a great weekend. I hope you are doing well.
ReplyDeleteHi Sondra, fungi is strange with an interesting life cycle and they have their part to play in nature. Until I had these mushrooms appear I hadn't fully appreciated that wildlife ate them too as I had associated fungi mainly with the decomposition process.
DeleteHave a good weekend, its a very wet one here.
Interesting to watch the wildlife in the garden.
ReplyDeleteDaily life passes by yet these wee creatures make the most of what is around.
I hope they know the difference between the good and the bad fungi!
It's is amazing what is close by and we dont often notice it . A nature blogger I follow, Earthstar, on the side panel, is a very knowledgeable naturalist and I have learnt a lot from her Blog.
DeleteGood to see you on the blog. My month of October Break is amost over, and I'm ready to get back in the flow Nov. 1st.
ReplyDeleteMushrooms are so very interesting...some good for animals, others tasty on a dish for humans. Glad you can take short walks. That's what my dearest can do also.
Looking forward to reading your Blog again Wanda, a break does you good. All the best to you and yours.
DeleteMushrooms are fascinating, visiting from Wanda's site
ReplyDeleteChristine, thanks for commenting. I had a look at your blog and interestingly your lawn mushrooms look very similar to those here, have you identified them, as mine were Shaggy Milkcaps.
DeleteAlthough I don't have mushrooms growing in my yard, my sister often does. Like you, the wildlife feed on them. The earth has a wonderful ecosystem.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kathy, nature is good at taking care of us , but its "us" who often spoil it. All the best.
