Mushrooms etc

Mushrooms appeared on the lawn !

Not sure what they were so after searching the Internet I still couldn't identify them so I contacted  this Wildfood website www.wildfooduk.com and they came up with Shaggy or Bearded Milkcaps.  They are edible, but I wont try them because,

"If eaten without very careful preparation, Lactarius torminosus can cause very unpleasant stomach upsets. (Be warned: the Latin torminosus means 'cause of colic'.) Some authorities suggest that the Woolly Milkcap is edible after it has been salted and pickled, but many more assert that it should be treated as poisonous."

from Firstnature .com

Here's some more from my walk, the next four could be Terracotta Hedgehog or Common Hedgehog tooth, again edible.

 This one I couldn't identify.

Its good fun finding them but I'll stick to the shop bought ones!

  1. HI Dave, you found some beauties, the top photo is almost a Fairy Ring. Im like you and don't trust my ability to ID them I have a book, but honestly so many look similar. My dogs eat certain ones they find, so I wonder if I could eat those but then again I can eat chocolate and it kills dogs so our systems are not quite the same. Glad to see you out with your camera it turned cold here from 86 to 48 in one day...lol Turn off the AC and then grab the winter blankets. Have a great week.

  2. Thanks Sondra. I'm really pleased with the Lumix, its so light and versatile, I get much use out of it than my previous Canon and its lenses.
Manageing to do some short local walks but I feel very frustrated when I see where all my friends have been cycling. At the moment some of them are in Mallorca enjoying some sunshine riding. C'est la vie.
I've been doing some work on a friends bike, changing the gearing so that the hills are easier.

    All the best.

    1. Thanks Mark. I have just read your profile you have a lot of blogs, I find it hard enough to keep one going !
I briefly read a couple of you cycling blogs and see that you have a Boardman bike, I'm very pleased with mine.

    2. Hi Dave, my blogs are more like individual chapters rather than diaries. Yes, the Boardman is fine for me. Hope you're back in the saddle soon Kiddo.

  4. Hi Dave, I agree with Mark - wise man not to eat 'em if you are not absolutely sure they are the edible ones. i see lots when I walk the dog over the fields, but I get mine from the local Tesco to eat!

Hope all is going well with you - it must be frustrating to work on others bike but not being able to ride yourself at present. After a stroke a few ywears back I went to an ebike as the left leg/foot was affected. It keeps me going on two wheels and the doc. says that it is all good excercise and good for the mind too, to be out in the countryside.

    1. I certainly wouldn't eat any wild mushrooms either Avus, it takes a real expert to be sure of identifying them correctly. An electric bike is always an option, and I wont rule it out, but I will see how it goes once this next operation is done. It is frustrating not being able to get out but working on my friends bike was rewarding as he will feel a huge benefit of having lower gears.

  5. Wise men do not eat forage unless a countryman is with them!
I use a lot of brown mushrooms, shop bought, but it appears to me all wild ones are poison.
    Good shots.
Not sure about them on the lawn however.

    1. Puff balls are good to find, as a kid I remember bursting them and watching the spores go everywhere.
