This is the inside of my latest library book. Point number 4 amuses me, how would they have known?
Here's a little story as to why I am reading this again.
When I was about 8 I used to rush home from Sunday School, pedalling like mad on my bike to be home by 4.30 to listen to the serialisation of Beau Geste on the radio. [or wireless as it was then]. This started off a fascination for the French Foreign Legion which has lasted all these years. I think it was the fact that you could "disappear" into the legion without any questions being asked that gave it that huge sense of mystery.
Recently Beau Geste was broadcast again, so back came the memories, and after listening to it I just had to get hold of the book. Luckily the library had a copy in their reserve stock, and so here we go again, being transported back to an 8 year old and soaking up those stories once more.
Those are some mighty strange rules!
ReplyDeleteHmmmm. I know more about Welsh coal mines and Dafydd ap Gruffydd (sorry if I'm misspelling, it's been a long time) than I know about "la légion". Except of course that no questions are answered.
ReplyDeleteNow is my memory failing me if I associate Errol Flynn or some such actor with Beau Geste?
Ciel.....its was Gary Cooper.
ReplyDeleteDave, nothing can take us back to childhood like a book!
ReplyDeleteHappy reading....
