To mark the 500th anniversary of his death there are exhibitions in various locations, of his life drawings, and 12 of them are on display in Cardiff Museum for a while.
Its fantastic to see them up close and considering their age and the materials used to create them they are in good condition.
Well worth a visit if they are near you.

Incredible pieces of work given their age!
ReplyDeleteMick, it's amazing that they have lasted this long. It makes you wonder how or where they were kept to survive for 500 years.
DeleteGood to see but a bit macabre!
ReplyDeleteHe had plenty of other etchings that would be good.
In a way yes Mr A, but then maybe thats looking at them with today's knowledge. 500 years ago the workings and structure of the body were a mystery to most and so these drawings would have been invaluable. So perhaps no more macabre than modern medical books.
DeleteMagnificent!!! Isn't the human body a miracle? Great art work and such detail. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteAs an artist Wanda you'd appreciate it.

ReplyDeleteLets hope so Sondra, theoretically they should last now as we have better knowledge.
DeleteWe saw a Leonardo exhibit in Seattle several years ago. It's just amazing what he accomplished in his time.
ReplyDeleteHim and Michelangelo are world geniuses.

ReplyDeleteYes it is Trevor and well worth the visit. I think they are also on display in Bristol.
DeleteIt is hard to imagine the range of talents possessed by Leonardo da Vinci, in so many different fields. I would have very much enjoyed seeing this exhibit.
ReplyDeleteDavid, its amazing how it has survived all these years and I felt very fortunate to be able to see it.
