"New" camera

When I'm cycling I like a pocket camera as I find it quicker to use than my phone.  I have used a Canon Ixus, but the lens cover broke and whilst it still works fine,  but when it's in my pocket the lens tends to get dusty and damp.

So I decided to get a cheap replacement , .....£12 from eBay.  So far it works fine and I'm very pleased with it, and to be honest at that price if it gets wet, dropped or whatever its fine.

It's an old style Coolpix, which suits me as I didn't want one with a touch screen, as I sometimes take pictures whilst riding and the less buttons etc to touch the better, and the auto mode suits this.  Also its "chunkier" that the newer models and that makes it easier to hold.  It uses AA batteries, however the battery life is not so good compared to a lithium battery.

Here's some pictures.

  1. Thats a great little camera...takes crisp photos. It's a good idea also. I am having trouble with that issue..>Dust getting into my camera. Now the zoom doesn't want to work properly, between the dust and the pollen it's about done for. I don't even try to take photos with my phone it's useless. Have a great week.

    1. Sometimes its worth looking at whats around in the second hand market. I went on a photographic course years ago and the tutor said he never bought new as lots of people start off and then either give up or upgrade their equipment. You can see how many pictures a camera has actually taken and sometimes its not many for the age of the camera.

  2. I prefer a camera (I don't have a "smartphone" anyway) as I have been a lifelong photographer, brought up with separate rangefinders and exposure meters. The coming of digital cameras was a great liberation from only 36 shots per film and then send off the exposed film to be processed. On its return invariably half the shots were useless and went into the wastepaper basket!

I currently use a 5 year old Fujifilm X10. It looks just like a vintage Leica and I love its "chunky" feel. It also has a separate eyepiece to view the scene. Lots of current cameras don't have this and you cannot see what you are taking if the sun is on the viewscreen.

    1. I like the Fuji X10 especially as it looks like a retro camera. It has a very good reputation too.
Yes those 30 shots on a reel as you say many went in the bin, but I think it made you think much more about the shot before you actually pressed the trigger.
I remember being told to check after inserting a new roll that the film is actually winding on. I heard stories about wedding photographers who had this mishap.... what a disaster.

  3. Bargain! What great shots for £12.
    Great shots indeed.
Dust in the pocket ruined one of my cameras. I hope yours survives, the pics are great.

    1. For £12 you can't go wrong, and the grandkids can always play with it.
