Years ago during the summer Barry was full of day trippers and holiday makers. It was the place where coal miners families from the Valleys came to relax.
I rode my bike (Dawes) from Cardiff to Barry last spring and found it delightful. Went back via the coast and Penarth. Nice relaxing day out. I found the dock to the north of the island quite fascinating and could easily imagine them full of rather expensive little appartments.
Your version of Coney Island. Happy New Year Dave! I'm having a hard time getting back in the swing, but I've missed your photographs.
ReplyDeleteMy Aunt's Mother lives in Barry. I have been there a handful of times when I was much younger.
ReplyDeleteI had many hoildays in Wales as a child. I loved it.
It looks like a lovely spot. I was surprised to see what looks like a palm tree in the first photo. I didn't know they grew in Wales!
ReplyDeleteWhat a relief it must have been, to be in the sun and by the sea instead of deep in the earth.
ReplyDeleteI laughed about the You-Tube backhoe ballet. I'd never seen it before. Thanks for sharing.
Yes, I feel what Annie said about the beach verses the mines.

I went to barry Island butlins on a family holiday when I was a child. I have good memories of that place.
